Armillary Cottage WHERE WE ARE
Mangonui
We are located in the heart of Doubtless Bay on the Twin Coast Discovery Highway touring route and you will find us an ideal base for visiting the best of Northland - from Bay of Islands to Cape Reinga. Armillary Cottage is located on the Mangonui Heritage Trail, opposite No.10 on the map. Coopers Beach
Mangonui Harbour Mangonui village is situated on the edge of Mangonui harbour with many restaurants, cafes, post office and gift shops. Fine dining is available at The Galley Restaurant and Waterfront Cafe. The famous Mangonui Fish Shop offers some of the best fish and chips in the country. Nearby Coopers Beach has a beautiful long safe Pohutukawa-lined swimming beach, with shopping centre, just a few minutes by car from Armillary Cottage. There are boat launching ramps nearby at Mill Bay and Taipa. For more information about this area, visit Doubtless Bay Online.

How to get here

There are one or two daily return flights from Auckland to Kaitaia Airport (about a half hour drive away) and four or five daily return flights to Kerikeri Airport (about 45 minutes drive) operated by Air New Zealand Link. There is a daily bus service to and from Auckland which sets down on Mangonui waterfront. Rental cars at Kaitaia Airport are available from Northland Rentals or we can provide transport from both airports.

Travelling here by car by the direct route using State Highway 1 and State Highway 10, the journey time from Auckland airport is about four and a half hours without stops. Travelling the Twin Coast Discovery Highway - a world-class touring route leaving from, and returning to, Auckland - requires at least two days in each direction to visit the many interesting and beautiful attractions along the way. Visit Go Northwest for more information. Click for an enlarged view of the map of our location.

Coming from Bay of Islands by State Highway 10, pass by the first sign to Mangonui, go to the top of the hill with the passing lane and immediately turn right in to Colonel Mould Drive (signs to St Andrew's Church, school and Armillary Cottage).

Coming from the north by State Highway 10, pass by the first sign to Mangonui after the fire station and then turn left in to Colonel Mould Drive.

After about 200 metres turn right in to Tasman Street and we are on the left hand side. Please note that Tasman Street is one way only and cannot be entered from Waterfront Drive. Click for a bigger image of the Northland map.
